Today marks the day that the Toadies finally got Feeler Released (digitally & through mailorder). It doesn’t come to stores until August 17th, but today you can purchase it for $6.99 on amazon or through iTunes with a bonus beatles cover for $9.99. Ever since I heard about Feeler I had hoped that one day it would get released, the toadies have without a doubt grown to be one of my absolute favorite 90’s bands. I do have many favorites from the 90’s but they would be in my top 5. So today to celebrate the release of their sophomore album finally getting released I’m posting demos I found through a forum (the toadies forum?) only within the last year, enjoy!

The other day my friend Eric & I made a digital mix that I’ll be posting pretty soon, and we’re going to try and do them like every two weeks. We wanted to do a podcast but I was having problems with recording music and us and since I do all the editing it was just far too frustrating for me to edit. So instead I think we’re going to do digital mixes with vinyl records only. I’ll have that that posted this week.

So until then I have a couple of fun vinyl pieces that I haven’t seen around the net at all, and I swore I used to see the Parentheses EP on the iTunes store or something. So enjoy some exclusive blow remixes & B-sides.

I love demo cassettes, I also love special cassette only albums or eps. I just love something that can make a release more unique. I don’t think that this album gained anything by being on cassette. However, for the time it came out (1996) it didn’t hurt it all that much either, I was definitely still listening to tapes up until 2001 and as much as possible beyond that. So this is a full length album only released on cassette from Baltimore metal crazies. Maybe their stoner rock, maybe their like the melvins and they don’t give a fuck. either way, they put out great heavy distorted pissed off music.

Earlier today I mentioned on twitter Boiling Man’s “Roadkill Museum” EP. I always find myself coming back to, I don’t necessarily know why its nothing too special except just really good crusty punk songs. With lyrics I can get down with, I’m not one for drinking or getting high and I am vegetarian and I do believe in the straight edge ways of life. So really that's a lot of ground to cover.

In this zip file I included Boiling Man’s EP as well as their Split with Broken and two compilation tracks one from each band. I haven’t seen a whole lot of Boiling Man or Broken on other blogs so hopefully someone thats been looking will find this and enjoy it as much as I do.

By Request - Part 3 of my 90's B-Side mix

I have 2 90's b-side mixes that I hold in a fairly high esteem, they have their blemishes but I still really love them. Today I finalized a third collection, about 2-3 years after the first two. I know I tried in the past to create new ones but I hated all the transitions and even some of the tracks.

I do have some guide lines for these types of mixes,

1. Must have been released in the 90's.

2. The mix should be around 60 minutes, like a mix tape. (i know some cassettes ran longer but standardly it was 60min tapes)

3. I don't think I have more then 2 rules for this one.

the past ones don't have any artwork or anything for them, because their for personal use so yanno I don't really go through the extra effort. However, I was thinking of making a "Boxed Set" version of them. I thought it would be fun.

I only included one source for each track but some of these definitely have multiple sources. Like "Burn" by NIN was also released on the Deluxe Edition of The Downward Spiral, also this is important, the version of Smash Mouth's "Sorry About Your Penis" is the fast punk rock version not the Lounge version released on the Orgazmo Soundtrack

Hey everyone, just poppin in for a moment, I've been playing around with tumblr lately and I wanted to post about two bands I've been listening to a lot lately that I had written shortly about over there.

Recently the Deftones released two new singles, one for a ridiculously titled song "Rocket Skates" & the title track follow-up "Diamond Eyes". Both of which are really freaking awesome, what these tracks and some other stuff I've heard the album seems like it might be the best thing since Around the Pony. As a teenager I really loved the Deftones angsty music & poetically drunk lyrics, they truely understood the loud-quiet-loud formula that nirvana perfected and added in a pinch of rap influence. So if you were ever interested in the Deftones, seriously.. check out the new album "Diamond Eyes". I think its going to be good. also much love to Chi, who's been in a coma since 2008 due to a car accident. I always loved Chi, couldn't really tell you why... I just liked what he played and how he presented himself. I didn't know him personally but I definitely appreciated him in any way I possibly could.

now onto a newer group, Saintseneca. I came across this group searching for old Reflector stuff from a label called Paper Brigade, apparently that label is doing stuff again... like putting out amaziny records from this group. They're super limited s/t 7" is curretly out of print but is still available for download from all the right venues (as well as the paper brigade website) and more importantly they just released a new EP called "Grey Flag" which isn't the same pace as the first ep but is just as catchy and addicting. Seriously, if you like acoustic music or music that makes you feel good or music that takes you and throws you into a group people singing for love and passion and music then download/purchase, listen, and repeat.

Samuel, son of Hannah

I don’t know too much about Samuel, I haven’t even ever done any real research on them, just enough to know that they put out two 7”s, and one split with Texas is the Reason. They also did a CDEP version of lives of insects that had a couple of extra tracks (that could very well be the other 7” and track from the TitR split. However I do know that they have a lot of passion in their simple indie rock songs. They actually hailed from PA so a little home-state pride with this one, although I never knew that until after collecting their 7”s. I originally got interested in them after trading for the Texas is a reason split, the track on there is absolutely amazing and so addictive.

I picked up the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack yesterday. You definitely didn't read that wrong. It's a fairly horrible soundtrack however has one gem amongst the rough. An exclusive version of the Foo Fighters cover version of "Have A Cigar" with Brian May. I actually already have the Foo covering this track on a Learn to Fly single, however I never knew about this alternate version until yesterday. So I decided since it was a great surprise to me it would probably be a great surprise to many others, and also its a rather good cover. Apples in Stereo are blasting through your radio

So it’s been a while, and I decided to come back with a pop rock bang. Really Apples in Stereo put out one of my favorite albums of 2008 and I had no clue until 2009. Helen & I were living near the Jersey Shore at her Grandmothers place and I remember it wasn’t too long after Helen started her Princeton job and she was so excited to not be trekking it to NYC every day from small town Belmar. So of course she wanted to blow some cash on some awesome records, and recently I had heard that Jeff Mangum played drums on this album and so we got that and probably 4 other vinyl records. This album is like a 24 song pop masterpiece (especially the first like 8 songs). Well everyone it’s time for Better Off Ted, so I’m gonna just get to the link already, enjoy this lil’ bit of pop awesomeness. and if you’ve got a couple bucks go get the record these b-sides are from (if you don’t already have it).

My girlfriend got me into these guys… the only song that was ever on my radar was Circles but I specifically remember hearing a radio DJ talking about them in the 90’s I remember where I was and where I was going but I have no clue what he said about them. maybe that was their bigger problem.. people just not paying enough attention.

Anyway, they wrote beautiful music and these are some strange tunes I found in a lovely torrent of basically all of their b-sides.. which I actually own most of from their original sources. They have some others like the Sinatra cover they did and something with a needle in the title but whatever, I found these and wanted to share them with you.

I excluded one track that I thought was a strange addition, the song M. Doughty did with BT. if anyone's interested I'll throw up the single for that with like 5 or 6 different mixes I just don’t think it necessarily belongs on a Soul Coughing b-sides collection cause the rest of the dudes didn’t have anything to do with it. Also, if your going to include that one on the b-side compilation why not the song he did with 808 State? ENJOY!

So while searching for cassettes at awesome record stores in Boston earlier this year Helen & I came across this crazy find in a little shop called In Your Ear which had an interesting selection or used vinyl, cds, cassettes and whatever else. I remember we found some awesome stuff like Heatmiser, Wallflowers (unsure if this is was awesome), and of course the find on our left Mary Lou Lord’s extremely hard to find first album only ever released on cassette “Real”. Today I felt like seeing if the soundcard on my computer was gonna be friendly and let me easily transfer it to my iTunes and SUCCESS!

This album is really a great collection of songs and the only place I’ve ever seen her cover a nirvana song. Like most of Lord’s releases this contains a few originals like “Not Necessarily the Bubonic Plague” & “Memories of You” but its also riddled with covers (and one song that might’ve been written for her???? – “Walkin’ On Air”) a good amount of these covers have ended up on her live album or compilations but there is also a fair share that are exclusive. So enjoy this lil’ blast down memory lane on multiple levels.

When I was younger I had dreams of having a thriving indie label (and record store) but those failed miserably. Before I ended that venture I managed to put out a cd, a 7” and a cassette tape. Alison Ranger, The Dekline & Fairmont (the lesser known one from pa that pre-dated minor times). At one point I also thought I would create a zine that would include mini 3” cd-r samplers. The first sampler being my labels sampler (along with an exclusive track from Mark Price, the 2nd guitarist of fairmont). I also thought it was artsy or dreamy or cool to put samples from movies in there. so here’s my lil’ sampler of the once sorta thriving Sole Survivor (previously Stage God) Records.

A Nirvana

So for some reason I woke up today and decided I wasn’t in the mood for electronic music today. Which is ALL I have been listening to for days on end. Especially Chemical Brothers, then I started breaking into some Roni Size (& one of my favorite Roni Size projects Breakbeat Era), as well as Dub Pistols & my favorite… Underworld. But today felt different, so I broke out some Nirvana, imported all the albums & singles I could find and threw on some compilation tracks.

Nirvana’s releases have always bothered me a little, the main albums are awesome (however, Bleach isn’t my favorite as some would think) but as far as collecting their leftovers, I always thought it was really sloppy. Especially for a band that had supposedly made such a huge impact. I guess its all the legalities with everything not being handled by the main members. At least there is Insecticide. Today I’m going to throw at you some b-sides that I always thought it was a shame that the original versions weren’t more accessible. This version of Spank Thru is the only one I actually like, which is a little depressing seeing that it is only available on the Sub Pop 200 comp and I’ve never seen it on any collections.

There are apparently TWO Nirvana releases coming out on the same fucking day. November 3rd will apparently be Nirvana “Live” Day because Bleach is being reissued with a bonus live disc with a show from ‘90 and also an infamous show (that I've never heard of where Kurt apparently came out in a wheelchair) ..at Reading is being re-mastered and released with a CD/DVD version and single cd or single DVD version. So apparently… on November 3rd.. if you give a shit, get your out your flannel and go to the record shop.

So, two newer bands that I sorta dig a good amount kind of disappointed me with what they've had to offer so far this year... first it was Silversun Pickups new LP, which was just ok. Not anything really in comparison to their first LP. Which truely is loaded with a ton of gems. Now Editors, I just heard the new single from them Papillon and I'm so disappointed with whats going on that I can't even post it. Maybe it will grow on me. but as of right now I don't care for it.

Also I won't be able to see Sunny Day Real Estate on their reunion tour... which I would absolutely love to goto, However I am going to see Far (which for me is probably more important). So because I do love SDRE's LP's (even rising tide was enjoyable) I'm gonna throw some OOP SDRE love your way. thanks for readin' friends.

Our favorite Jacks Music Employee came out with a new album with his garage rockin' band and I wanted to throw up the cover because you can't find it anywhere. I'm not necessarily sure how to get a hold of it, we've got our in's with the big guy. I would suggest calling Jacks Music at the early hours of 10am [ (732)-842-0731 ] ask for The Ribeye Brothers "New Ways to Fail", which apparently was recorded about 2 years ago (i believe right around the time their record label went under.. bummer). also try hittin' them up on myspace!

So today I finally added the Weezer catalog to my iTunes, which may seem strange for anyone that knows me, except for I’ve been very slowly going through my entire collection trying to get it all on one 500gb hard drive, and its taking an excruciatingly long time.

I recently came in the possession of the next or newest Weezer single, and much like Pork & Beans it shows promise. However we’ve all been burned by the promise of Weezer before, these fellows are gonna do whatever it is their little herat desires.

Wax on Wax

Today I received the new Wax 7” from SideOneDummy, which is about… 15 years late? sort of. Wax is doing a reunion at some festival that I won’t be able to make it to but I can still order the bonus songs from the bands final LP. I know one of these tracks ended up on a single for “California”, the most popular (i think) Wax track out there. However I find “Mallrats” far more memorable or even the three songs from the Bio-Dome soundtrack, but whatever I’m sure the 2min of watching a man run on fire sparked some teenage interest in the mid 90’s. They also did a rendition of Ren & Stimply’s “Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy” for Saturday Morning Cartoon’s Greatest Hits.

Wax’s 2nd and probably more well known album 13 Unlucky Numbers is quite a find. I never used to think so, in fact I remember finding many testimonies to its horrendousness back in the day, but anything I ever said about that album after revisiting a lot of 90’s bands a couple years back I completely take back. You can find it relatively cheap in used and bargin bins as well as Amazon of course. so go find it check out the tracks I posted and have some fun.

The Refreshments Go Lo

So I wasn’t a huge fan of the Refreshments album “Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy” when it came out back in the day, of course I loved the hits “Down Together” & “Banditos” but the album just didn’t connect with my 13 year old brain. Not like Bush or Everclear (or even better Korn). [side note still love Everclear today and listen to the 1st third of their discography on a very normal basis]

HOWEVER, in the past couple of days I have become well aquainted with the earlier workings of the Refreshments and find them quite addicting and just fun to listen to. I’m a huge fan of 90’s music and considering I grew up and experienced the 90’s through teenage eyes, it’s not real surprise. So today I’m offering up some Refreshments love for all those enthusiasts out

there. Before the Refreshments were signed to a major label they were rockin’ it independent style with they’re first effort “Wheelie” & EP counterpart “Lo, Our Much Praised Yet Not Altogether Satisfactory Lady”. I’ve come to really love the track “Los Angeles” on it which is actually the only exclusive track amongst the two releases. The other weekend I went to Pittsburgh, PA and various parts of Ohio for my birthday. We stopped in Pitt to hang out with my friend Sarah who knows all the good vinyl record shopping hot spots, i don’t know if that's true it just sounds nice.

I found this SWEET Filter 12” for their 2nd single from Short Bus “Dose”. It contains 4 mixes of the song.. and only one is really good but its all very fun to listen to. I had a very Ralph moment today when I walked into the bedroom door with the new Wilco LP in had... crashing the top corner into the door and ripping the record sleeve a bit. Tearing something like that, especially so new, creates a great sadness within me. I have a need for some sort of perfection when it comes to music. Some things definitely look better weathered. Jeans, (probably unauthorized) Minor Threat T's, Johnny Cash... But records will always be better in pristine condition. Even if your just talking about the cover sleeves they're encased in.

Since I had some Wilco misfortune today I'm gonna share a Wilco track that might be a bit hard to get your hands on. the iTunes pre-order track from my current favorite Wilco album... Wilco (the album).

Titus Andronicus

So this bands from Jersey, I saw them with No Age last year with my friend Brian. Titus absolutely kicked No Age's ass that night. In fact, so badly that I probably haven't listened to No Age since that night. However, the downfall of Titus... they are Soooo much better live then they are on record. But, what can you do... can't steal the boys and make'em play for you whenever your ready to hear their songs. After a few listens the album will start to get better and better but it still never compares to their live performance. I also saw'em on Record Store Day at Vintage Vinyl. Just as good as the firs time.

So a little while ago I found the 7" pictured at the top at AKA Records off of Market St in Old City. It contains a wonderful B-Side that isn't as good as the album but is still a nice little addition. A whole lot more somber then the very layered discordant debut.

Recently I heard the entirety of the Good Luck LP "Into Lake Griffy", and it is a MASTERPIECE... Truely. If any album deserves album of the summer or of the year its this one. Its fun, its lively, its beautiful, it freaking rocks and it feels like your very talented friends wrote it. very talented. So for anyone that didn't know Good Luck contains the underground pop genius Matty Pop Chart (guitar/vocals) as well as Ginger Alford (bass/vocals) from One Reason & Pretty Hot (two very awesome punk bands).. I'm not as familiar with Mike Harpling but his drumming on the LP is absolutely awesome, and creates amazing tension at the most perfect moments.

So, Against Me!'s 1st and 2nd album were huge events in my life... Helen & I followed against me around for probably 2 or 3 tours... before we got kinda pinned down by school. So the fact that Against Me! are finally releasing the demos from a major period in my life is pretty awesome. Actually I'm fairly sure there are more sessions from the Eternal Cowboy that have yet to be released, mostly acoustic versions. But seeing how Against Me! doesn't seem to pay mind to alot of demo and hard to find stuff I feel like it might be a whilebefore we see another colection from them.

However, I do really REALLY hope that the demos from Searching for a Former Clarity come out, I always thought they were alot beter then the actual album.

So in the spirit of bonus tracks, here's 8 from Against Me!'s catalogue. The vinyl tracks I recorded myself.

Importing my life

So I've recently got a hard drive large enough to possibly contain my music collection in a reasonable format and quality. But what you never think about before doing such a thing is the time and dedication it takes to get ALL of that music onto said hard drive. And if your a completest like me you want covers for everything. and some albums just can't be found so you search them out on the internet and the quality's crappy or you can't find a cover because its a band so independent that they don't have stuff widely available on the net. I have no anecdotes for any of these things, just observations in how monotonous... yet fun it is to archive a music catalog.

to the left is a pic of the cds i'm currently working on, mostly stuff we (helen my girlfriend & I) were planning on trading in. the book is one of 2 books that will probably be imported as well. one contains compilations/soundtracks the other was meant for a special mix we put together filled with 90's alt, rock n pop hits.

I'm currently digging the new prodigy, here's a video for one of the tracks off of "Invaders Must Die"!

Podcast #1

Tonight I created the first of hopefully many podcasts, its an all music podcast and I played only 7" vinyl singles. All from this box of records that my girlfriend acquired, also including a couple extra that I've purchased. I think I'm going to just call it Sleep when you die. it just makes too much sense. the first one ran around 45 min and was kind of just a mix of music ranging from the 50's to the 90's... with a huge slant towards the 90's. In the future I plan on doing episodes that are more genre & sub-genre oriented but todays was more the pilot, the test-run, the beta. so, enjoy my new and first podcast,
